MBBS in China by province: where the 44 listed schools are and how many places each has

The 44 universities on the Ministry of Education's 2023–2024 list for English-taught MBBS are spread over 22 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. Jiangsu has the most, with seven universities and 500 of the 3,048 planned places. Zhejiang follows with 300 places at three universities, and Guangdong with 280 places at four.

How the counts were made

The Ministry's list gives each university's name and enrolment plan but not its location. The table below joins the list to the Ministry of Education's national list of higher education institutions dated 17 June 2026, which files each university under a province and records its location.

Reading the counts

A larger enrolment plan means the Ministry allowed that university more places for the year. The notice says places were allocated with regard to past enrolment and each university's teaching and management of international medical students. The list does not rank universities, and a count is not a measure of quality.

Nine provincial-level regions of mainland China have no university on the 2023–2024 list. A university in one of them may teach medicine to international students in Chinese, but under the notice it may not enrol them in the English-taught programme.
