What the Ministry of Education's notice requires of schools that teach medicine in English to international students, and what that means when you read a school's admission notice.
What the Ministry of Education requires of schools
From the notice of 15 May 2023. These are rules for universities. They tell you what a school is and is not allowed to offer.
- Enrolment plan
Places are capped per school
The Ministry manages enrolment by plan: 44 universities, 3,048 places for 2023–2024. The notice says places were allocated with regard to past enrolment and each school's day-to-day teaching and management of international medical students.
- Off the list
Chinese-taught only
A school not on the list may enrol international students only in Chinese-taught undergraduate clinical medicine, and the training standard must not be lower than the one for Chinese students of clinical medicine.
- Enforcement
Limits and suspension
The notice states that universities which seriously breach the rules will have enrolment limited or suspended in accordance with laws and regulations.
Tuition, entry requirements, language requirements and deadlines are set by each school and published in its own admission notice. Open a school's page for the link to its website.
